The House and Senate have passed SB 1507

Feb. 24, 2026, 8:21 p.m.

Here is an update on the legislative situation regarding the federal tax cuts and our pay raises. The House and Senate have passed SB 1507, which addresses the three items needed to disconnect from the federal tax cuts. As it stands, this bill retains approximately $300 million of the original $900 million in cuts. This means about one-third of the funding has been preserved for now. It is possible that lawmakers will attempt to make up the difference by using reserves or implementing 1% cuts across the board, which would be minimal for individual agencies but add up overall. Republicans intend to refer this measure to the ballot, meaning we can expect another fight in May, and possibly again in November. This situation is far from over and remains an ongoing crisis. Our pay raises are directly on the line. I spoke with a political contact from 503, and we need to focus our efforts on the following legislators. These individuals sit on the Joint Committee on Ways and Means Subcommittee on Human Services, which has direct influence over our funding. We should be writing to every single person on this list, as well as our own legislators from the districts where we live. Here is the list of key committee members: Sen. Winsvey Campos, District 18, Co-Chair Rep. Andrea Valderrama, District 47, Co-Chair Sen. Sara Gelser Blouin, District 8 Sen. Cedric Hayden, District 6 Rep. Ed Diehl, District 17 Rep. Cyrus Javadi, District 32 Rep. Travis Nelson, District 44 He is a total supporter of caregiving and Direct Support Professionals. Rep. Anna Scharf, District 23 She supports DSPs sort of through the ORA.
